Choosing the right kind of sod can be intimidating. There are many things to consider before making a choice. Things like climate, sun exposure, amount of traffic, and water source. Today we’re discussing a few warm weather grasses that grow well in coastal NC. Centipede grass, the least expensive, is a fairly low maintenance turf that grows slowly. It does not do well in high traffic areas. So if you looking for a heavy use green space in a hurry, this probably is not the grass for you. Bermuda grass is a little more expensive than centipede, grows very quickly and does well in high traffic areas. It’s often used on golf courses. Bermuda is also very drought tolerant. One draw back is that it tends to be invasive if not properly maintained. Our preferred choice is Zoysia grass. The initial investment is higher than Centipede or Bermuda, but it ends up being more cost effective in the end. Not only is it drought tolerant, it does very well in high traffic areas, and is pest resistant. Which means less money and time spent on maintenance and watering. A great choice if you enjoy using your yard to it’s fullest potential. Now is a perfect time to start planning for a beautiful green lawn.
